How To Sell Your Artwork!

One of the best things about living in the social media age is the fact that there are so many ways to find resources and information to create your own small business. I compiled a short list of tips to help aspiring artists/business owners with ways to open their own businesses. Check em out:
1. Make Art!
This one is pretty obvious! Make sure you have enough art to sell. Whatever your medium or craft is, be sure that it's a quality product. This is extremely important because of course you want to make great work, but this will also keep your customers returning for more and help your business spread.
2. Practice Good Customer Service
Besides making great art, this is the core of your business. It's vital that you give customers service they will value and appreciate. Communicate with customers, give updates on shipping, make sure packages are sealed correctly. In layman's terms, make your customer feel comfortable and ensure that they have your trust.

3. Create a Website/Online Store
People need to see your work! Online stores like Etsy, Big Cartel, Square, and Scott's Marketplace are some of the main hubs for selling art. Creating a website/blog is also a way to organize your work and a way for people to see your portfolio of past works.
4. Use Social Media to Promote
The great thing about most social media sites is that they're free.99! Well, a good majority of the popular ones are. Of course you may have to pay for advertisement to get more people to see what you have to offer, but for the most part you can get a lot of people to see your work. Joining art networking groups, submitting your work to art pages, and using hashtags are great ways to promote your artwork and grow your customer base.

5. Take Good Photography
Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to be a professional photographer or purchase a $900 digital camera to take amazing photos for your online shop/website. However, if you're about that life, more power to ya! Taking clean, clear photos and having simple knowledge of editing is a skill every artist/seller needs to have under their belt. Presentation means everything to buyers and you want to leave a great impression of professionalism. Great photos can be taken on cell phones with the right lighting and background. 6. Network Outside of Social Media
While social media is a great tool, it's important to not put all of your paint brushes in one basket. Vending at markets, handing out business cards, and hanging up flyers will also get your business noticed. Old school networking is still effective in a social media era.
