Legends Concert & Bantu Fest Recap

Last Saturday I participated in the 2016 Legends Concert & Bantu Festival presented by Bantu Entertainment. I was fortunate enough to meet the founder Silvain Songo and his family a few years ago at the Love & Unity Concert and Fashion Show. Bantu Entertainment is an event planning and management organization founded by Cameroonian born Silvain Songo that promotes Pan-African entertainment and talent.

The Bantu Fest took place at the K.L.E.O. Community Center on the south side of Chicago with a line up of local Chicago artists as well as national and international ones. Vendors sold food from South Africa, Jamaica, and West Africa along with African inspired clothing, jewelry, artwork, and more.

What I enjoy most about the Bantu Festival is the plethora of African cultures and unity in the community. This year, I held a painting workshop for the youth and vended some of my art goodies. At my workshop, I had the children paint cultural pictures and photos of what they wanted to be when they grow up.

Although it rained later on (the same thing happened last year, haha!), we took the event inside the K.L.E.O. Center and the event continued to be a big success. As usual, this event was beautiful and it was wonderful to see unity in the community and positive vibes whether the sun was shining or if it rained. I am definitely looking forward to next year's Bantu Fest!
